Big Four Winds (Daisushi)

Maximum Value
All Terminals (Chinroutou)

Tile Types
Numbered suit represented by bamboo sticks. The 1-bamboo often features a special bird design.
Numbered suit featuring Chinese characters for numbers 一 through 九.
Numbered suit featuring circles/coins, sometimes called Dots.
East, South, West, North. The round wind and seat wind provide bonus scoring.
Red (中), Green (發), White (白). Each provides a bonus when used as a triplet or quad.
How a Round Flows
-
1
Build the Wall:All 136 tiles are shuffled face-down and arranged into a square wall of four sides, each 34 tiles long in two rows.
-
2
Deal the Tiles:The dealer draws 14 tiles; the other three players draw 13 each. The dealer begins the round.
-
3
Draw & Discard:On your turn, draw one tile from the wall and discard one face-up. Other players may claim your discard.
-
4
Claim Discards:Claim a discard to complete a Pung (3 of a kind), Kong (4 of a kind), or Chow (3-tile sequence from the left player).
-
5
Win or Draw:The round ends when a player wins (declares Mahjong) or the wall runs out (draw). Scoring is then calculated.
Winning Conditions
A standard winning hand consists of exactly 14 tiles in this structure:
Each meld is either a Pung (3 identical), Kong (4 identical), or Chow (3 consecutive in one suit).
Two identical tiles that complete the hand. Some special hands use a different structure.
Your hand needs exactly one more tile to complete. This is when you can declare Riichi.
Claiming a discard you cannot legally use, or falsely declaring Mahjong, results in a penalty.
